This service gives you an opportunity to practice answering questions verbally in Japanese before your actual interview and to receive feedback from both an Administrative Scrivener and Japanese Language Teacher.

The 60-minute Zoom session is not the beginning of the preparation.

Before the session, I ask you to provide information that will help me understand your naturalization application and personal circumstances.

I Review Your Background
I review the information you provide about your background, life in Japan, work, family, and reasons for naturalization before our session.
STEP 03
I Prepare Questions for You
In addition to common interview topics, I prepare questions based on the circumstances you have shared with me.
INFORMATION FOR PREPARATION
What Should I Send Before the Session?
If possible, please send your Statement of Motivation (動機書) before the session.
If you are comfortable sharing them, I also recommend providing documents or information that allow me to understand the contents of your naturalization application.

How the Interview Practice Works
The session is structured so that you spend time actually answering questions in Japanese—not simply talking about the interview.
0–10 MIN
Confirm Your Situation
We briefly confirm your interview date, current residence status, application timing, any changes since your application, and the areas you are most concerned about.
10–35 MIN
Mock Interview in Japanese
I ask you questions verbally in Japanese. You listen and answer on the spot, rather than reading questions from a prepared list.
35–50 MIN
Feedback
We review your answers, whether they addressed the questions clearly, and how naturally you were able to communicate them in Japanese.
50–58 MIN
Practice Again
After receiving feedback, you answer selected important questions again and try to communicate your answer more clearly.
58–60 MIN
Final Advice
We finish by reviewing the main points to remember when communicating during your actual interview.

The Goal Is Not to Memorize Perfect Japanese
I do not simply give you long, complicated Japanese answers and ask you to memorize them.
A memorized answer may become difficult to use if the question is asked differently or if you receive a follow-up question.
The goal is to understand the question and explain your own life, work, family, background, and reasons for naturalization in your own words.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the practice session conducted in Japanese?
The mock interview portion is primarily conducted in Japanese because the purpose is to practice listening to and answering questions in Japanese. When necessary, simple English may be used to explain feedback or clarify what we are practicing.
What level of Japanese do I need?
You do not need perfect Japanese. The practice is adjusted to your actual Japanese level. The purpose is to help you practice understanding questions and explaining your own circumstances as clearly as possible in Japanese.
Do I need to send my naturalization application documents?
If possible, please provide your Statement of Motivation and information that helps me understand your application and background. If you are comfortable doing so, you may also provide additional application documents. The more relevant information I can review beforehand, the more specifically I can prepare for your circumstances.
Will you tell me exactly what the Legal Affairs Bureau will ask?
No. The questions asked in an actual interview depend on the individual case and the matters the Legal Affairs Bureau wishes to confirm. I prepare realistic practice questions based on the information you provide, but I cannot know or guarantee the exact questions that will be asked.
Will you give me model answers to memorize?
I can help you organize and improve your answers, but the goal is not to memorize standardized answers. We focus on helping you explain your own facts, experiences, and reasons using Japanese that you can realistically speak.
Another professional helped me with my application. Can I still book this service?
Yes. You may book this service even if another professional helped prepare your naturalization application. However, this service focuses on interview practice and is not intended to replace your current professional or provide a comprehensive second opinion on their application strategy.
Can you tell me whether my naturalization application will be approved?
No. This service does not assess or predict whether your naturalization application will be approved. The purpose of the session is interview preparation and Japanese communication practice.
How long before my interview should I book?
If possible, I recommend booking early enough to give yourself time to review the feedback and practice again before your actual interview. If your interview is approaching soon, you may still book any available session.
Can I book another practice session?
Yes. If you would like another full mock interview, you may book another Naturalization Interview Practice session. If you mainly want additional Japanese speaking practice, you may also book a separate Japanese lesson.
