Japan’s short-term visitor visa requirements can vary depending on your nationality, country of residence, purpose of travel, relationship with a person in Japan, who will pay for the trip, and the Japanese Embassy or Consulate where you apply.

For example, the documents for a sightseeing trip may be different from those required when visiting a family member, friend, boyfriend, girlfriend, or partner in Japan. Additional documents may also be relevant when someone in Japan invites you, provides accommodation, or pays some or all of your travel expenses.

“Partner Visit” is not an official Japanese visa category.

Depending on the circumstances, a visit to a boyfriend, girlfriend, or unmarried partner may need to be handled under the applicable short-term visit category, such as a visit to a friend or acquaintance.

The appropriate application route and supporting documents should be determined based on the actual purpose of the trip, your relationship, financial arrangements, and the requirements of the Japanese Embassy or Consulate where the application will be submitted.

Are You Contacting Us on Behalf of Someone Else?

A partner, family member, friend, or inviter in Japan may contact our office for an initial consultation about a planned visit.

However, before formally accepting a case, we may need to communicate directly with the visa applicant and/or other key persons involved. We do not formally accept a visa-support engagement based solely on information from an unrelated third party without appropriate verification.

Identity verification may include confirmation of a passport and another government-issued photo identification document, depending on the circumstances.

Short-term visitor visa cases can vary significantly depending on the travel purpose, applicant’s nationality and country of residence, inviter or guarantor situation, financial arrangements, documents to be prepared, and requirements of the relevant place of application.

Do I need a visa to visit Japan?

It depends on your nationality, passport, travel purpose, intended length of stay, and other circumstances. Some travelers may be eligible for visa exemption, while others must obtain a visa before traveling. We confirm this as part of the initial case review where relevant.

I am visiting my boyfriend or girlfriend in Japan. Is this tourism?

Not necessarily. “Partner Visit” is not an official visa category, and the appropriate route depends on the actual purpose and circumstances of the trip. A visit to an unmarried partner may, depending on the case, fall under the applicable category for visiting a friend or acquaintance.

Can my partner, friend, or family member in Japan invite me?

Depending on the application and circumstances, a person in Japan may prepare invitation-related documents. The specific documents required should be confirmed for the applicant’s place of application.

Can someone else pay for my trip to Japan?

A third person may pay some or all of the applicant’s travel expenses in certain cases. However, the financial arrangement should be clearly explained and supported by the documents required for the particular application.

Do I always need a guarantor in Japan?

No. Whether guarantee-related documents are required depends on the purpose of the visit, who bears the travel expenses, and the requirements applicable to the particular visa application.

Can your office prepare an invitation letter or Schedule of Stay?

Yes, where appropriate and within the agreed scope of service, we can assist with documents such as the Letter of Reason for Invitation, Schedule of Stay, Letter of Guarantee, explanatory statements, and other supporting documents.

Can you submit my visa application for me?

Our main service is case review, document preparation, and application preparation support. The actual submission method depends on where you apply and the procedures established for that location. We will explain the relevant submission route where necessary.

Do I need to buy my airline ticket before applying?

Do not assume that a paid airline ticket is required unless the instructions applicable to your application specifically require it. The relevant Embassy, Consulate, visa application center, or other official instructions should be checked before making non-refundable travel arrangements.

How long does the visa process take?

Processing times vary depending on the place of application and the circumstances of the case. Additional examination or requests for further documents may result in a longer processing period. Please check the current information published by the relevant Japanese diplomatic mission before planning your trip.

Can you guarantee that my visa will be approved?

No. No administrative scrivener or other private service provider can guarantee visa issuance. The final decision is made by the relevant Japanese authorities after reviewing the application.
